When The Noise of The World Is Overwhelming

When The Noise of The World Is Overwhelming

Oh, the world noise. I’m tongue-tied by it. Weary of the resounding gongs and clanging cymbals. Tired of how I add to the cacophony. God asks us to love Him and to love others (Matthew 22:38-39). It’s His most important thing, but is it my most important […]

Is Your Prayer Life Lifeless?

Is Your Prayer Life Lifeless?

Like an actor “talking” on the phone. Like leaving a voicemail knowing no one would hear it. Like speaking into the wind. I knew what I should say, but I didn’t think much about who was on the other side. My prayer life was dull, […]

For When You Are World Weary

For When You Are World Weary

Weighing her down, the world sits Atlas-like on shoulders.

Placed there by her life, her people, and people that aren’t even hers.

If she’s honest, placed there by herself too.

Beauty abounds. Blue skies. Flowers blooming. Children laughing.

Little time to see them though with working too many hours, waking too often, crawling through illness, searching for His hand in the dark.

Beauty doesn’t shout as loud as pain.

It whispers:

“Come, and I will give you rest.”

She stills.

Rest.

She tries watching mindless things, walking away from people, propping up on her pillow.

Tries too hard to find rest.

But rest is not found in what the world offers.

She stills.

Rest.

She tries watching the clouds, walking through the woods, propping open her Bible.

Beauty whispers:

“Come, and I will give you rest. Don’t let yourself get lost in pain. I have taken this world on. You don’t need to take it on yourself.”

Pushing the world off her shoulders and onto His because that’s where the world began, she rests in His words, His beauty.

“The thief has come to steal, kill, and destroy, but I have come to give you life.”

The thorns of this world can’t stop the rose from blooming. The prowling lion can’t snatch you from His hand. You can fear no evil for He is with you.

“Come, and I will give you rest.”

Rest.

Knowing that He’s got all the rest.

all the rest

How Changing Your Focus Changes You

How Changing Your Focus Changes You

My five-year-old had just finished up a trial karate class. As he walked towards us, my two-year-old ran to him and hugged him like he hadn’t just been playing with him less than an hour ago, like he hadn’t just sat there watching him the […]

How to Be Happy According to Science and God

How to Be Happy According to Science and God

My jaw is sore. I can’t tell you when exactly, but I’ve been clenching my teeth. Maybe it was when the two-year-old melted down faster than a candle stuck in a birthday cake that left ooey gooey wax everywhere. Or was it when the baby […]
